“I love competition and have always been competitive. I have found that the lessons I have learned from playing sports translates to many things in my everyday life.” ~Lexi Kilcoin

Lexi Kilcoin’s first love was basketball but she has since gravitated towards golf and has developed a passion for the game and its many life lessons.

“I remember my dad taking me out when I was really little. I had a tiny set of clubs and I would hit a ball here and there,” Kilcoin said. “It wasn’t until the end of my eighth grade year that I asked my dad if I could start taking it seriously because my high school had a golf team.” Kilcoin did, in fact, take it seriously, she earned a spot as a freshman on the varsity team.

Kilcoin had never played a competitive round of golf. In fact, she had never played a full round of golf until her first high school match, which the team finished in first place. “I surprised myself and found that I had a natural talent for the game.” Kilcoin understands she has improved much since then but recognizes the best is yet to come.

This past summer Kilcoin played in the Lifestyle Junior Golf Tour. She finished first and second in many of the events and was also the top point earner and champion for her age division in this competitive junior tour.

In the fall of 2017, Kilcoin completed her junior season at Saint Joseph High School. She helped lead the Indians to the IHSAA regional golf tournament for a third straight year.

A three-year varsity letter winner, Kilcoin has finished among the top three at the sectional tournament as both a sophomore and junior. She’s gunning for uncharted territory in 2018 in hopes to lead the Indians to the state tournament.

Her competitive nature drives her to be the best she can be, whether that means extra time on the putting green or going above and beyond in the classroom. Regardless, athletics have been a big part of Kilcoin developing into a well – rounded student-athlete.

“I love competition and have always been competitive. I have found that the lessons I have learned from playing sports translates to many things in my everyday life,” Kilcoin said. “I have met many of my friends through sports and I believe the values that student-athletes live by make for some of the best friends.”

Kilcoin also believes in a healthy lifestyle and that imprint on her life has proven beneficial.

“In my experience student-athletes are some of the most active and hardest working people. Playing the sport you love while maintaining your grades and other commitments is very rewarding.”

For those that know Kilcoin best, they know how golf has impacted her life. The game provides an environment to cultivate character, integrity, responsibility and perseverance in a fun, but competitive landscape. These qualities will certainly make a lasting impact on her as they have for many others over the years.
